Biography

After he graduated, he worked as a presenter in ICTV’s “Hello Hello” programme at around 2006. After that, he used to be a cameraman at Zews Film. Not long after, he made a cameo appearance in Romi Meitei’s “Ekhenglakta Red Rose” in 2008. He then stayed at Pilu’s (a producer, editor and director) house and assisted in his filmmaking and was credited as the assistant director. He also got another cameo role in the film “Abirkhan” directed by Pilu H. During his stay, he met Guna Sharma who opened the door for Bonium to get into the platform of Shumang Leela. Impressed with Bonium’s love for performing arts, Guna took him to Imphal Jatra Association and Bonium made his debut as a shumang leela artist in 2009 with the play “Brindavan Chatlamdai”. Much to his dismay, he didn’t perform well as a rookie artist and the crew was unhappy about it. But he pleaded with them to give him some time to improve himself. Like he promised, he did really well in his third play “Wrong Number” which was a hit of that time. After that he joined Tomthin Artist Association and acted in “Kunti 7” which he could not initially pull off his character but got better with the help of Guru Birjit Ngangomba’s rigorous training. He then acted in “Melody” and “Pizza 2” where his dialogues caused a sensation among the Manipuri youth. He also showcased his talent in singing and gained public attention by singing songs before the play started. Before he left the platform, he got some minor roles in “Mapok Mayee” and “Tamthiba alias Nungsiba” but his major breakthrough in the silver screen was when he made his debut as a singer with the song “Engao Ngaojabi” and acted in the music video that made him win the award of the “Best Actor” in 2014. After that, he was casted as an antagonist in Herojit Naoroibam’s “Meerang Mahum” that sold out all seats on the premiere night. It was followed by another film written by Herojit Naoroibam. It was titled “Nangna Nokpa Yengningi” and Kaiku, the renowned actor of Manipuri film industry helped him with his acting throughout the shooting. For this, Bonium considered Kaiku as his Godfather. And as far as his singing career is concerned, Bonium is thankful to Hamom Sadananda for giving him opportunities to sing in local concerts. Bonium has delivered a number of songs most of which are public’s favourites including the award winning song “Nangna Nokpa Yengningi”, “Nungsiruba Thamoisina” and “Wakhalgee”.
